Shimo-la-Tewa Primary School is situated on the main Mombasa to Malindi Road between Shanzu and Mwatopa (See Map).
Pupils range from 5 to 16 years of age and follow the Kenyan Curriculum from Standard 1 to 8.
All Pupils sit the School Leaving Certificate at Standard 8. A very small minority go onto further education.
Boys from the Shimo-la-Tewa Remand Centre are educated in a special unit in the school.
The school is supported by the Wema Project who provide a school bus that picks up around 140 street children from the city of Mombasa each day.
In January 2007 the computer
lab was set up.
Educational software, that supports the Kenyan syllabus in Maths, English, Science and Geography, was installed.
A timetable was drawn up by the I.T. & Class Teachers.
Standard 6, 7 and 8 pupils will have a one hour lesson each day for five days.
They will focus on Term One’s Syllabus in Maths, Science, English and Geography.

A Computer Club will be run after school and during lunch.
I.T. Teachers will use these periods to train class teachers in computer skills.
Pupils will be selected to use the Lab during these times for Special Classes.
