The Kenyan Project evolved from the stark reality that there are children in this world who are being taught Chalk & Talk, up to 125 pupils in a class sitting on concrete floors; the only one with a text book is the teacher.
Something needed to be done to give these children access to wider knowledge and increase the opportunities to lower the level of poverty.
It was felt that this could best be achieved through the use of I.T.
From this belief Computers for Primary Schools Kenya (CPSK) was born.
Our objective is to establish the use of I.T. as an educational tool in Primary Schools in Kenya in a way that will enable them to manage their own I.T. solutions so that they become independent and sustainable.
We aim to achieve this by selecting schools in a cluster group so that they can support each other and work together to promote and develop their I.T. capabilities.
Each school in the group will have:
- A Computer Lab' with work stations, benches and secure storage, computers that have educational software installed a printer, photocopier and laminator
- Trained I.T. Teachers
- Satellite internet access
- I.T. Technician support
As well as an Educational Establishment each school in the group will serve (out of school hours) as a Community Facility for:
- I.T. Training
- Printing/Photocopying/Laminating
- Browsing the ‘Net.
Schools in the group will be supported by CPSK until they are up and running effectively and are independent of us.
One school in the group will serve as a base for:
- I.T. Association Meetings
- Certified I.T. Training
- Co-ordinating the Computer Project
When this group is successful it will be used as a model to extend to other areas of Kenya.
